Cooling With Window Fans and Save Your Money

January 14, 2020 by Jennifer Melton Leave a Comment

Most people that live in hot climates install an air conditioning system in the house. While air conditioners are considered essential for the summer, they use a lot of electricity and are actually quite costly. Many people are coming to realize how much air conditioner’s actually cost and those who want to save money are looking for alternatives.

One alternative method for cooling the home is to install window fans. Window fans are becoming quite popular, as they are relatively cheap and do not use near as much power as an air conditioning unit would. A window fan looks much the same as a regular fan, except that, as the name implies, it is installed in a window.

A window fan is suitable for most types of weather. However, these fans are not recommended for a person who lives in an area that has heavy pollution. Those who live in areas that get hot in the day and cool down at night will benefit the most from these fans. Window fans will cool the house effectively yet gradually.

How many window fans can be installed in a home depends on how many windows the home has. However, window fans do make a fair bit of noise so one may not want to install too many of these fans in any given room of the house. Window fans are easy to install as the fit in with the window frame.

Window fans can either face outwards or inwards. One should consider which side of the house is the coolest in the summer before installing window fans. Some fans should be installed inwards while others should be installed facing outwards. That way, the window fans will not only bring cool air into the home but send out the hot, stale air that is inside the house.

One should not run window fans all day long. If the air outside is very hot, then one would not benefit much from the use of window fans. These fans are best used in the evening and at night, when the temperature outside drops.

One should also never install these fans on the ground floor of the house. Because the windows must be open for the fans to be installed, this puts the house in danger of being robbed or burgled. It is advisable to only use these fans on the second floor of the home. One should also install a working security system for the house before installing window fans.

A person who has a limited budget should seriously consider installing window fans and using these instead of an air conditioning unit. While air conditioners are the most effective and fastest way to cool the home down, they are also very expensive. Furthermore, they are not environmentally friendly appliances.

A window fan is effective at cooling down most any home and is much cheaper than AC units. A great window fan, like the Holmes 7 twin is relatively inexpensive to purchase—under $30!—plus you don’t need a professional to install it for you!
