This robot is made of white plastic with a matte surface. White color seems a controversial decision since it’s easily soiled.
The upper mirror-smooth surface has a circular shape.
The control panel with a mechanical button is located in the front part. Its rim is highlighted in white, orange or red depending on the current state.
The ultrasonic proximity sensor is located behind the grille in the bumper center. The right side contains an additional IR sensor that allows the robot to move very close to an obstacle (up to 10 mm) without collision.
The orientation system uses an IR laser rangefinder (lidar) for scanning. It’s located in the tower on the top panel. Lidar uses a radiating laser diode and a photo-detector. They are fixed on the rotor that rotates in the horizontal plane at a speed of 5 revolutions per second. According to the company, the scanning frequency is 1800/sec, the distance to the obstacle is determined at a distance of up to 20 feet with an accuracy of 2%. These data are necessary for making a room map when forming the optimal motion trajectory.
The movement of people and animals does not affect the operation of the orientation system—a special algorithm filters out moving objects.
The upper plane of the lidar tower is located above the surface of the robot. The maximum height is 3.78 inches. Of course, this complicates cleaning under the low furniture. For comparison, the height of many modern models does not exceed 3 inches.
The location of the driving wheels at the same distance from the center ensures a turn on the spot that significantly increases maneuverability. The large diameter of driving wheels (2.75 inches) and the 30mm stroke of their hinges provide a confident overcoming the obstacles with height up to 18 mm.
The flexible elastic guides of the front side brush with a stiff straight bristle effectively move the garbage to the main brush. It raises the garbage above the floor. Then, garbage is sucked by airflow into the dust collector.
The brush design is very convenient for cleaning.
The robot controls the presence of a dust collector filter with the help of a magnet on its frame. A plastic grid with large cells detains large garbage. The corrugated fine-pored filter is designed for dust.
This model uses a powerful fan with a brushless motor from the Japanese company Nidec. It provides a peak performance of 0.67 m³ / min and a maximum under the pressure of 1800 Pa.
Xiaomi Mi Robot is intended for dry cleaning only. Moisture may damage the printed circuit board. Unfortunately, there are no robotic models with moisture protection in this price segment. Therefore, the use of a vacuum cleaner is impossible in a wet room or on a wet surface.
This model performs cleaning of the entire available surface or a specific place (Spot mode).
The robot provides installation of time and days of the week for a cleaning schedule. Its operation lasts up to 20% of the battery charge. After recharging, it continues cleaning from the breakpoints.
Restrictive magnetic tape 25 mm wide and 2 mm thick is intended for spatial planning.
Unfortunately, it’s not included in the delivery package and is bought separately. Its approximate cost is about $ 2 for 1 foot.
The control is carried out through the global cloud service. This robot supports only 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The app plugin displays the status of the robot, the map, the space cleared, the last cleaning time, and the current battery charge. It provides a return to the dock station, starting cleaning and switching the fan power.
The noise level depends on the selected mode. It reaches 61.5 dB at maximum power and decreases to 54 dB in Eco mode.
A full charge lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes.
