The theory of adjustment is really about the contact between the bowl and the attachments e.g.: flat beater, balloon whisk, or dough hook.
I will describe to you how to adjust your KitchenAid stand mixer step by step:
Mixer head adjustments
However its default setup doesn’t get wrong but if you notice that ingredients in the bottom of the bowl aren’t being fused, the head isn’t locking properly or the beater is scraping the bottom of the bowl then you need to fix it.
How to detect that you need to do adjustments?
- Take a coin.
- Place it in the bottom of a clean bowl attached with your mixer, not at middle, concave areas at your bowl.
- Use flat beater attachment for this test.
- Take mixer at middle speed now focus on your coin see if it is moving about one half to one-fourth inch around the bowl every time it gets contact with beater your adjustments are cool. But what if it doesn’t get a contact or if your beater push more than a one-half inch then it has a lack of clearance, buddy you need to adjust your mixer properly.
Mostly KitchenAid got two common models:
- Tilt-head model
- Bowl-lift model
Tilt-head model:
- Remove the flat beater
- Tilt the head back and I hope you can see a screw right where the top and body of the mixer
- Give quarter turn at screw right for increasing contact and left for creating more space.
- Redo the test of coin and you know when the adjustments get proper clearance.
Bowl-lift model:
- Remove the flat beater and bowl.
- Lay the mixer down backward on a towel so that it doesn’t slip.
- Locate the screw right where the top and body of the mixer meet.
- Give quarter turn at screw right for increasing contact and left for creating more space.
- Redo the test of coin and you know when the adjustments get proper clearance.
Those were basic adjustments of a stand mixer but it can be taken at a more upgrader position by applying the process below.

Why is my KitchenAid mixer head is locking?
The mixer head should always be locked in the down position so that it doesn’t move up and down while you use it for mixing, it especially happens at the period when you use mixes heavy dough or cake mixes. If you don’t have a head adjustment problem then I think it doesn’t happen. But if it doesn’t lock at the correct position, then contact KitchenAid stand mixer customer service.
Oil leaking from the mixer
To keep the mixer well lubricated it is filled with solid greases that contribute to the whole gear. You may see some oil dripping down the beater shaft, or it even leakes from the speed control or lock lever slots from a mixer that has been placed on its side in storage or during transport. It happens for the reason of oil separating from the grease and setting to the lowest point in the motor by which is above the beater shaft in an upright position or the speed controller setting if the machine is on its side. There is some factor which is the reason for the contribution of oil separation.
- Very warm environment.
- Infrequent use of a mixer.
- Overuse without cooling between the session.
Those were the reasons which can be a problem of oil leaking. So there might be a way to keep your mixer fit.
- Make regular use of your mixer.
- If your mixer doesn’t come in work then you can just turn it on for some moment on an empty bowl.
- If you are using your mixer for the first time after a huge gap then turn it on slowly and at slow speed.
- Wipe every drop of excess oil which does appear in the beater shaft.
- Yep guys follow these steps. I hope you won’t face the problem of oil leaking or if you have got heavy leakage then please contact the KitchenAid customer service.
Beater stuck on the mixer
If your beater attachments are stuck on the beater shaft then take a tea towel and wrap around the beater shaft for 10 minutes and re-warm the towel and repeat it a couple of times. It will free your beater attachments.
Bowl is stuck to the base of the mixer
It often happens for the bowl-fit model and it happens when you use a heavy mixer for a long period of time. Ok then you need to follow the same trick we followed in the Beater stuck section but now you need to apply it at the clamping plate.
Mixer shuts off at the period of use
Motor heat is the reason why your KitchenAid stand mixer is overheated. This can happen if you mix something heavy for much time or due to plugging problems. You need to give 30 minutes rest to your mixer at every session.
Yep! Follow these steps to find out your hidden culinary talent. Use your creative brain for new culinary results and we can only hope that it will be edible. For a tip, I will tell you to be confident about the food item you create.
