The most stunning cakes that I’ve seen done with hexagonal cake pans are simple three tier cakes that are finished with fondant and simple piping along the corners of each point of the hexagon. It’s really simple and very easy to pull off. It takes a little bit of practice to get the hang of using the fondant around the odd corners, but if you screw it up you can just peel it off and do it again!
Another thing you can do with the tiers is stack the second tier 30° or 45° to one direction from the tier below, and the third tier the same as the first. It creates a sort of optical illusion that makes the cake look like it’s rotating. Very cool and very easy!
