Wood patio furniture has always been popular,in all sort of homes and log cabins. It’s not difficult to understand why, wood looks naturally beautiful when it is well cared for. But there are different types of wood, so which should you choose for your patio?

Cypress is a highly popular wood due to its durability and the natural oils that make it more resistant to insects and rot. Cypress wood is also warp resistant. This explains why it is preferred by many people for outdoor furniture.

Cedar patio furniture

Cedar is a very popular choice for furniture, whether indoors or outside on your patio. Cedar is naturally weather resistant, but if left unfinished, will change color over time from red or brown to silvery gray. This is quite natural and many people prefer the silver gray look.

Knotted pine patio furniture

Pine is a soft wood that can be rather delicate, for this reason it is best to stain it on a regular basis. It is resistant to weather, decay and insects, and so is a good choice for outdoor patio furniture. Many people really appreciate the knots found in pinewood, but make sure you make good use of the wood stain.

Brazilian hardwood patio furniture

Brazilian Cherry has a beautiful natural grain and being a very hard, extremely high quality wood it is considered by many to be the perfect wood for outdoor patio furniture.

Teak patio furniture

Teak is one of the most popular choices for patio furniture. It is durable, with a fine grain. It also has natural resistance to insects and rot. Unfinished, teak furniture can last for over 70 years.

Wood therefore is not also naturally beautiful it can also be very long-lasting and envrionmentally friendly. High-quality wood will, of course, last longer, so can save you money in the long run.

Eucalyptus Hardwood

Eucalyptus hardwood is intended for outdoor use in all types of weather. Comparable to teak, with excellent weather-resistant properties, eucalyptus is naturally resistant to rot and insects. Furniture made of eucalyptus is light , easy to move and requires no oiling. Untreated eucalyptus will weather and turn a soft shade of silvery gray similar to teak, natural splitting or cracks will appear, but this will not affect the durability of the furniture. To protect against this weathering process you can apply coats of a hardwood oil.
