Affordable And Appealing Patio Flooring Options

January 14, 2020 by Jennifer Melton Leave a Comment

If you are anything like me, your outdoor patio will get quite a bit of use during warm seasons like Spring and Summer. This lounging area is great to sit back and relax or enjoy family barbecues.

To truly enjoy this time to the fullest, the perfect patio cover, location, design, and decorative elements are essential. One of the more important factors in patio construction is the proper choice if patio flooring options. There are several outdoor flooring options such as paint, tile, wood, carpeting and concrete, and each option gives a specific design while serving a specific purpose.

If you need an inexpensive way to add style to your patio and the foundation is in good condition, paint could be an option. Concrete paint is available for sale online or at your local home improvement store. Make sure to thoroughly wash your concrete slab in preparation for painting. You will need to apply primer first before painting the flooring the desired color. Depending on the type of patio covering you have, sealed paint should last three to five years before it will need touched up.
Tile is a traditional choice of exterior flooring, and will add texture to your patio. Depending on the climate in your area, you can choose between ceramic tiles or porcelain. Ceramic tiles in areas that have severe lows will crack, so it important to pick a tile that can sustain heat and cold. Although this option is more costly and will require annual sealing, it offers a look no other patio flooring option can.

Wood is popular for decks and patios alike. A hardwood that can tolerate all of the elements such as walnut, can be installed directly over your concrete foundation without all of the hassle of building a deck. This look will bring a warm and outdoorsy feel to your relaxing area. Make sure to treat the wood frequently, and choose from one of the available patio covers to protect the wood from warping.

Outdoor carpeting is much different then the carpets used inside the home. These carpets are designed to withstand natural elements such as rain and sunlight, and are composed of synthetic materials. Carpeting for your patio can provide comfort and easy installation. Using an adhesive, your carpet can be applied directly to the concrete foundation, and is very affordable. You also have the option of using outdoor carpet tiles.

No matter what you flooring of choice, whether it be the timeless classic look of Spanish tiles, or the ease and affordability of paint, one thing is for sure: you will add functionality and appeal to your existing patio. Throw in patio furniture, a cover and maybe a fire pit, and voila, relaxation.
