Samsung is one of the leaders in the segment of development and production of robotic vacuum cleaners. First NaviBot was introduced in 2010. It was replaced on New NaviBot Silencio in 2011. Silencio works significantly quieter compared to previous model. NaviBot SR8980 was presented in June 2012. It has visual mapping system and self-cleaning.
Model is available in black, red, gray and blue colors.
Advantages
- Robot automatically devastates dust container;

- Optimal trajectory of robot movement during cleaning;

- Duplication of HEPA-filter (into robot and into charging station);

Disadvantages
- Large size and weight of charging station;
- Rigidly fixed scraper of main brush sometimes complicates the movement;
- Average quality of cleaning near the obstacle;
- Robot sometimes moves the charging station during cleaning;
- Some users complain on inaccurate maneuvering between furniture (for example, a model sometimes gets stuck between the chair legs) and decrease in quality at cleaning large debris.
Model is equipped with a visual mapping system for forming an optimal cleaning trajectory.
It’s called the Visionary Mapping System.
The system uses 12 sensors, two microprocessors and a video camera. The shooting speed is 30 fps.
Model has four main cleaning modes:
- Auto mode is designed for a single cleaning of all space;
- Max mode is intended for cleaning before full battery discharge;
- Spot Cleaning mode provides an intensive cleaning in specified area.
- Its area is 1.5 square meters.
In this mode, a vacuum cleaner cleans only specified zone;
Manual mode provides cleaning with the remote control;
Robot weighs just over 6,6 lb. Robot height is only 80 mm. Low height provides cleaning in hard to reach areas (for example, under furniture).
New powerful and capacious Li-Ion battery provides work for 100 minutes on a single charge. Its capacity is increased compared to previous model from 2000 mAh to 3000 mAh.
SR8980 has a relatively low noise level. But noise increases during emptying the dust collector at the station and in Turbo mode.
Round shape provides a high maneuverability of the vacuum cleaner.
SR8980 uses the dust sensor to determine the contamination degree. Therefore, the cleaning duration depends on the sensor information.
Of course, the function of self cleaning is a major model advantage. It uses a two-liter container for dust that is located on charging station. When built-in dust collector is filled, robot moves on the station, empties garbage container and continues to work. The robot container volume is only 0.5 liters. Therefore, the robot often travels to the base during cleaning. Dust collector is emptied about 3 minutes.
Charging station is quite heavy. It weighs 13, 2 lb that provides its stability.
Built-in vacuum cleaner with a capacity of 600 W is the main part of station.
It provides debris suction from dust collector of robot.
Robot cleans air from dust by cyclone way. Drawn air is twisted. Centrifugal force presses dust to the walls of cyclone chamber and throws it in dust container through the hole. Rest dust is captured in filter before the motor. Fine purification is carried out by HEPA-filter. It’s located after the fan.
Dust collector is made of tinted transparent plastic. It has a filling mark. LED on charging station also signals about its filling.
Manual control by Remote Control is simple and convenient.
Delivery set includes the virtual walls for limiting the cleaning zone.
They greatly simplify operation in automatic mode.
