Successful Indoor Cultivation – Basic Concepts

January 14, 2020 by Jennifer Melton Leave a Comment

The sun is not available for 24 hours everyday during the whole calendar year. Also, most houses have inadequate sunlight entering because of tall buildings and close spaces between houses. Because of this, scientists have developed artificial lighting sources to provide the plants’ needs even during the night, winter season and to make indoor cultivation a reality.

Grow Lights that were traditionally used include Incandescent Grow Lights, Fluorescent Grow Lights, High-Pressure Sodium lights, Combination Metal Halide and HPS lights, Switchable, Convertible and Two-Way lights. Incandescent Grow Lights converts much energy into heat rather than light. Fluorescent lights have been successfully used to make vegetables grow faster and they are more energy efficient than Incandescent lights. HPS lights produce a poor color index. They are used for the reproductive phase of plant growth. HPS Grow Lights emit hot light which consumes much energy and can lead to scorching of plants or poor growth.

LED Grow Lights is modernly used Grow Lights. It doesn’t have the disadvantages of other Grow Lights. Perhaps the only negative aspect is the high initial cost but everything will be worth it upon using it for indoor gardening. LED Grow Lights will cut your electricity consumption because of its efficiency.

Gardening Tools are needed before starting an indoor garden. The roots absorb all the nutrients from the soil for plant survival and maximum growth. You need a soil cultivator to enable the plants to maximize absorption of water, mineral and fertilizers from the soil. To control the amount of water you deliver to the plants, you need a mist sprayer. It evenly distributes water to your plants for a moist growing environment. Get an easy to use garden pruner to shape your plants, remove excess branches and remove withered parts. If your Gardening Tools are complete, you need a grow tent to house your plants. Grow tents provide an excellent environment for a happy harvest!
