The Washers & Dryers Mini Guide

January 17, 2020 by Jennifer Melton Leave a Comment

Solving the Washer & Dryers Dilemma

Searching for the right washer and dryer set can be quite a hassle. There are so many models, so many reviews, and so many prices that it’s difficult to know where to begin. Hopefully this mini guide will help you to find the right washer and dryer for your home. Without all the headache.

Maytag Washers & Dryers

Maytag is a known company with a long history of home appliance quality. Both Maytag’s washers and dryers turn out with tremendous positive reviews. The dryers can cost less than $500 and washers between $800 to $1000. Their top load models are straightforward, long lasting work horses with any number of settings.

LG Washers & Dryers

LG makes a variety of models, from small machines for rooms without an external venting source, to extra large load designs with excellent customization settings, without intruding on your dinner or quiet time; built for peaceful washing. Some complaints about difficultly servicing LG machines, however. A little more expensive than Maytag, prices range from $600 to $1500. Their All In One model can be over $2000.

Speed Queen Washers & Dryers

A set of Speed Queen washer and dryer, about $2000, is a large price to pay for machines that have very mixed reviews. They are supposed to be quiet machines, but people complain about the lacking moisture sensor.
The stackable Speed Queen is above $2000.

Frigidaire Washers & Dryers

These models are significantly less expensive. A washer for around $800 and dryer around $400. Even their stacked design is just over $1000. For the price you’re paying, it’s considered a decent buy.

Samsung Washers & Dryers

This trusted name in electronics and home appliances won’t disappoint you with their washers and dryers. Though you’ll pay between $700 to $900 for a dryer, and just under $1200 for a washer, these machines are worth the little extra money.

Bosch Washers & Dryers

Bosch also has a great name behind it. Quiet machines, quick workers, and thorough cleaning. Most complaints are from first time users; it may take a moment or two to get used to a new machine. Prices are only a tad higher than the Samsung counterparts.

Electrolux Washers & Dryers

Electrolux washers are a little under $1600, their dryers falling only a little lower than that. They have a great reputation for quality that seem to fail nobody. For reliable washing and drying, the machines are worth every penny.

GE Washers & Dryers

Comparable to the Maytag, GE gets good reviews for the price you pay. It does not have the sleek contemporary beauty of more modern styles, fancy electronic features, and is not as quiet as some others. An inexpensive buy, however, for reliable machines.

Energy Star Washers & Dryers

Many of the above mentioned models are Energy Star qualified. Look for this qualification in your washer/dryer search; the energy savings per year on utility bills might reach $135 or more. With that money in a few years, you’ll have paid back for your dryer. Or be getting your detergent for free, all year round!

Used Washers & Dryers

Buying home appliances used is a tremendous temptation. The money you can save is like putting a child in a candy store. The precautions to take, however, are a little sticky. First, it is not recommended to buy a machine that has outlived its warranty. Also, make sure the dealer who gave the warranty is reputable. Machines older than their warranty should be very cheap; you may spend more money on occasional repairs than expected. If you can buy machines from someone who will tell you why they are selling and what problems they encountered, along with rave reviews about the durability of the product when bought new, you may be in good stead. Good luck!
